ASIS Queensland Chapter 2010 Round-Up

ASIS Queensland Chapter Round-Up for year to date 2010 has started well.

ASIS Queensland Chapter Round-Up for the Year to Date

2010 has started well for ASIS Queensland Chapter with steadily growing membership and a range of education and professional advancement events planned during 2010.
On February 10, Chapter members and other security professionals attended a presentation at the Queensland Fire & Rescue Service, Special Operations Group in Cannon Hill, on responses and planning factors for facility, security & risk managers, for incidents including chemical and potential biological exposures. ASIS Qld Chapter member, Station Officer John Dodd ran an information session followed by a tour of QFRS response and capability outline by other QFRS Special Operations staff.
John and the QFRS Special Operations Team gave a rare insight into practical but procedural steps in the mitigation and appropriate response to 'white powder' incidents and incident management recommendations to increase efficiency and minimise facility downtime and consequential reputation exposure. ASIS Qld Chapter sends its thanks to John and the QFRS Special Operations Cannon Hill team for an insightful and practical look at this security and health based risk.

On March 3rd, Qld Chapter Chair Gordon Willcocks CPP, gave a special presentation at the Security Institute, Wooloongabba regarding the inaugural Certified Protection Professional (CPP) examinations to be held in Queensland by the Chapter in Brisbane later in the year. With the support of Australian ASIS Chapters and approval with ASIS International Certification representatives during the recent ASIS Asia-Pacific Conference in Sydney the 'pen and paper' exam will be conducted in Queensland for the first time. The exam will be preceeded by a series of Chapter arranged study sessions, information resources and support for members wishing to undertake this prestigious and internationally accredited qualification. Senior security professionals and fellow Qld Chapter member, Lili-Ann Mitchell, CPP, Principal Advisor, Asia-Pacific for Rio Tinto Global and Gavriel Schneider, CPP, Director Dynamic Alternatives, gave the forum a personal insight as to the international recognition and credibility associated to the CPP certification as well as the pre-qualification, study and commitment for applicants to attain. Applications must be received by ASIS International for the November exam by 1st September and potential Qld Chapter applicants are strongly recommended to contact Gordon Willcocks CPP, by July for vetting and information arrangements. Only the CPP will be offered in 2010 by the Qld Chapter but other ASIS certifications may be offered in subsequent years. ASIS Qld wishes to thank Geoff Schurer, Principal, Security Institute for the facilities and ongoing support.
April 7th saw the Chapter at Jupiters Hotel and Casino, Gold Cost, for a membership drive coordinated by Chapter Deputy Chair and Jupiters Safety and Security Manager, Bill Harding. Bill and fellow ASIS colleagues from Treasury Hotel and Casino gave an information session on the security business approach in gaming and hospitality, accompanied by an ASIS member benefits address by Gordon Willcocks CPP. Over 20 Brisbane based ASIS members supported the event to highlight ASIS networking benefits to 9 Gold Cost security professionals. ASIS Qld wishes to thank Jupiters Hotel and Casino for the hospitality and superb facilities contributing to a highly successful evening.
May 5th will see a Qld Chapter dinner and information evening, "Professional Intelligence and Investigations in the Business World", held in Brisbane. Two dedicated intelligence and investigations providers from the Qld Chapter will be presenting trends and case studies in investigations and corporate intelligence for business risk applications as well as governance and due diligence implications, including background screening.
ASIS Qld Chapter events are held on the 1st Wednesday evening of selected months in and around Brisbane. Further information of upcoming events, ASIS membership, Qld Chapter affiliation and the CPP certification exam can be obtained by contacting us at
